Why merchants accept stablecoin payments

Stablecoins reduce payer anxiety about price swings during checkout compared with volatile assets, while staying in crypto settlement rails. CXPay still prices the cart in USD and converts that into an exact token amount for the payer to send.

Checkout amounts are priced in USD and quoted to the payer as an exact crypto amount, rounded to a precision their wallet or exchange can actually type: two decimals for USD stablecoins and TRX, four for SOL, six for ETH and on-chain Bitcoin, and whole satoshis for Lightning. The payer must send that exact amount before the quote expires; quotes can be refreshed if they lapse. Underpaid, overpaid, and expired payments are surfaced as distinct statuses in the dashboard and via webhooks.

Payers should send the amount shown at checkout exactly. Exchange withdrawals often subtract the network fee from the number typed into the form, so the transfer arrives short; where the exchange offers a "fee on top" or "receive amount" setting, choosing it makes the full quoted amount arrive. Self-custody wallets send the typed amount and add gas separately, so they match the quote without extra steps.

USDC, USDT, and DAI coverage

USDC is available on Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, and Solana. USDT is available on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, Tron (TRC20), and Solana—but not on Base. DAI is available on Ethereum, Base, Optimism, and Polygon.

Visit each asset page for a concise network list you can share with finance teams. Tron and Solana stablecoin rails follow the same USD quote and non-custodial settlement model as EVM chains.

Fees and gas for stablecoin checkout

CXPay charges 1% on standard checkout, 0.5% when the payer selects the CXCASH rail (private, gas-free payments on Aztec via cxcash.app), and a $0.30 minimum fee per payment. There is no setup fee, monthly fee, or application fee in the product. Ethereum and Bitcoin network fees are shown to the payer at cost on those rails.

On EVM networks, payers pay network gas at cost when they choose ETH or ERC-20 stablecoins outside the CXCASH rail. CXCASH remains the gas-free private option via cxcash.app with a 0.5% merchant fee when selected.

Treasury and payout

Stablecoin payments settle to your configured payout wallet like any other supported asset. Reconcile using payment reports and on-chain receipts.

There is no automatic fiat conversion—treasury stays crypto unless you move funds elsewhere.

Invoices, links, and e-commerce

B2B invoices often specify USDC on a preferred chain; payment links make that easy without custom code. WooCommerce merchants can request the official plugin through the contact page after setting a settlement wallet.

Shopify has no native CXPay app; use payment links or invoices for draft orders and B2B workflows as described on our Shopify integration page.

Server integrations should create payment intents with Idempotency-Key headers, persist the returned intent ID on your order row, and only mark paid after payment.succeeded verifies on your webhook handler. Test keys let you exercise the full lifecycle without touching live balances. WooCommerce merchants request the official plugin through the contact form and configure API base URL plus webhook secrets before going live.

The merchant dashboard and GET /reports/payments help you filter by status and time range. Download GET /exports/payments.csv when finance needs a spreadsheet-friendly view. Pair exports with webhook-driven order updates so internal systems stay aligned with on-chain settlement. Because CXPay does not hold balances, your wallet history and CXPay reports together form the reconciliation trail.

Help payers pick the right chain

Merchants who educate payers about exact amounts and quote expiry see fewer support tickets. Publish your accepted assets and networks on your store policy page and link to CXPay asset guides. When customers pay with ETH or BTC, remind them that network fees appear separately from the CXPay merchant fee. For audiences comfortable with Aztec, highlight CXCASH as a gas-free alternative through cxcash.app.

Payments that land within 0.25% of the quote count as paid. Anything further below is reported as underpaid, and the payer can top up the shortfall to the same address before the quote expires; receipts to that address are added together and the status is re-evaluated. Payments more than 0.25% above the quote are flagged as overpaid so the merchant can refund the difference.

Questions about this page

Can payers choose any stablecoin?

Payers choose from supported stablecoins on supported networks—not arbitrary tokens.

Is USDT supported on Base?

No. Base supports ETH, USDC, and DAI only.

How many decimals appear in quotes?

Stablecoin quotes use two decimals, the precision exchange apps and wallet send forms accept. Volatile assets use more: four for SOL, six for ETH and on-chain BTC, and whole satoshis on Lightning.

Why is a stablecoin quote a few cents above the price?

Payments settle directly to your wallet, so the amount is what distinguishes two open payments on the same address. Each one gets an offset of a cent or two, capped at five cents on small invoices and 0.5% of the order up to $0.25 on larger ones.

Do stablecoin payments have the $0.30 minimum?

Yes. The minimum fee applies to all payments.
